Protect Your Valuables and Your Health with Window Film

What Causes Fading?

There are a few different sources of fading, although the primary reason is ultraviolet light. Here’s a specific breakdown of what causes fading:

The colors that we see when we look at an object come from chromophores, which are molecules that absorb certain wavelengths of visible light. According to the Library of Congress, UV rays fade colors by breaking down those chemical bonds, a process known as photo degradation. Certain objects are more susceptible to color fading, while others reflect light and won’t fade as easily. Although UV rays are the largest cause of fading, there are a few other contributing factors.

The solar heat and visible light that we see and feel coming through a window are the other two main sources of fading. Other miscellaneous factors, such as the dye quality, humidity, and artificial light, are also responsible for a small percentage of fading. Fading can’t be prevented entirely. But luckily, there’s an easy solution that can significantly reduce fading throughout your entire home: window film.

How Window Film Fights Against Fading

Window film is one of the most impactful ways to reduce fading and mitigate damage to your belongings. There are several ways window film fights against fading to give you an extra layer of protection, KC Tint offers free estimates.

Blocks 99% of UV Rays

Window film lets in natural light while also blocking up to 99% of damaging ultraviolet rays. Unfortunately, along with causing fading, UV rays are also detrimental to your health. So you won’t just be protecting your valuables with window film; you’ll also be doing yourself a favor by minimizing your risk for skin cancer.

Rejects Solar Heat & Filters Visible Light

Window film also reflects solar heat and filters visible light to greatly slow the fading process. While UV rays account for 40% of fading, and keeping out ass mush as 99% UV solar heat and visible light together are responsible for half.  Although fading can’t be prevented entirely as some factors can’t be controlled, using window film can reject UV rays, visible light, and solar heat that cause 90% of fading.

Window Film Doesn't Just Reduce Fading

Window film greatly reduces fading and will go a long way toward protecting your HOME or BUSINESS furniture, artwork, rugs, and other valuables from sun damage. But that’s not the only benefit it provides! Window film can also improve energy efficiency, enhance occupant comfort, and even reduce your air conditioning cost.
